Peel District School Board celebrates groundbreaking of new Ellengale Public School

Peel District School Board (PDSB) has officially broken ground on the new Ellengale Public School, marking a major milestone in the transformation of a longstanding educational and community hub in Mississauga. Construction is now underway on the new Ellengale Public School, following the demolition of the original building. The new school—designed by CS & P Architects and to be built by Struct-CON Construction Ltd.—is expected to open its doors in January 2027. Made possible through funding from the Government of Ontario, this important project reflects a shared commitment to building safe, inclusive, and high-quality public education spaces that support student success for years to come.

The new state-of-the-art facility will serve students from Kindergarten to Grade 8, with capacity for approximately 882 students. As part of a broader vision to support families at every stage, the project also includes an on-site childcare centre offering high-quality, programming for infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children. This addition reflects the board’s strong commitment to early childhood development, recognizing the vital role that accessible childcare plays in preparing young learners and providing a
seamless transition into the school community.

The new school will replace aging infrastructure that has long struggled to meet the needs of a growing student population. With enrolment expected to exceed 500 and 12 portables previously in use, the new facility responds to years of over-capacity and reflects the community’s vision for a more inclusive,  integrated, and future-ready learning environment.

As part of the ceremony, Elder Carolyn King, former Chief of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and Founder of the Moccasin Identifier, led a traditional blessing of the new school grounds. This act of ReconciliACTION recognizes the deep Indigenous roots of the land, reinforces PDSB’s commitment to honouring Indigenous voices and cultures in its learning environments, and highlights the importance of education to truth and reconciliation.

More than a physical transformation, the new Ellengale Public School is a significant investment in the future of public education in Mississauga. It promises to be a space where students, staff and families can learn, grow, and thrive together reflecting the values, spirit, and diversity of the community it serves.
